What's New

Famous Authors: One of America’s most famous authors visited Phillips Brook getting our help for background for setting the first third of his new book on Little Dummer Pond and at the school house which was our old Office at Paris. We’ll let you know when he is ready for publicity. I have read and commented on the manuscript. You will really feel how the setting shapes the plot and characters. Especially if you have been at Little Dummer Pond Yurt where we looked at the old logging camp and imagined its history as the last Lombard Log train pulled away from the camp and it shut down to slowly disappear.

Yurts: We will try and get a new yurt up on Big Dummer Pond this Summer. It will have a short trail to a sandy bottom swimable part of the shoreline. Soon you can swim with the Otters. It will be served from Little Dummer Pond Tailhead. There is a new roof on the South Summit Yurt no thanks to mother nature who made us change it during the second week in January.  It only took us 5 days from the time I found the damage to having it warm and dry for the Scouts coming in from New York State.

Hot Tubs: We will try for our first plunge and/or hot tub at either Little Dummer Pond or Big Dummer Pond yurt this Summer. It will have a propane generator, pump, and hot water heater. It will be under lock and key and only available for an additional fee.

Trails: we really will open the Raspberry Crossing Trail this fall to give a shorter link from Cow to South Summit via the snowmobile trail. There is a new trail to Big Dummer Pond from Little Dummer Pond to allow access to the Big Pond for snow play and swimming. We have started to try and build a reliable crossing over the Big Dummer Outlet stream so wish us luck.

Signs: We will add reflective blue markers on the trees every 50 feet or so to the South Summit Trail where the snow made it so hard to see the trail last year and people worried about finding it in the dark.

Firewood: South Summit will have  a new and larger  dry and seasoned wood pile and all the yurts should have ample seasoned dry firewood again this year.

Dog sledding is Back. The popular dog sled guiding and trail running are coming back this year. Our first teams for training will be at Phillips Brook the first weekend in November. We are trying for a 7.5 mile to 10 mile non motorized trail loop for training so keep checking.
